It's the end of the Month of Musicals, and I have a great way to go out: Enchanted!!! I love Amy Adams, I've recently realized, and also, Cyclops can sing. Plus, James Marsden's character isn't nearly as diva-y when he plays a fairytale prince, so...
But I digress. If you know Enchanted, then you know "Happy Working Song," and you know it's awesome.

Oh No!
Oh no! I almost forgot!
Okay, so until today, I had three favourite Disney films (in no particular order): Robin Hood, The Emperor's New Groove, and Mulan. Today, though, I realized it was necessary to add a fourth one, which to me is equal to those three. And that one is Beauty and the Beast. I mean, come on. How could it not be a favourite? Anyway, I almost don't want to feature it, because it's so well-known and parodied already, but I've decided to go with "Be Our Guest" for this one.

A Mad-cap Musical Romp! ... Good! ... Fun!
When Jack finda out he has three possible dads, Liz excitedly realizes it's a Mamma Mia! She advises herself not to force it, and to "just let it happen," and then convinces Jack to invite them under some false pretence to New York. He agrees to meet with them, but assures Liz that that's all he's promising. Then Liz tells him, "And all I'm promising is 'a mad-cap musical romp! Dot-dot-dot Good! Dot-dot-dot Fun!' ....... It said that on the poster." I wish Liz Lemon could be my best friend.
Anyway, one of my favourites from it is "Take a Chance on Me." (I had to go back and make sure it wasn't the ABBA song I had previously featured; I tend to forget these things.)
It's also the song that Andy uses to ask Angela out on The Office, which makes it even better!

The Name Just Doesn't Work in English
You can't really call it The Miserables. It just doesn't work. That's why you have to stick with the French name, Les Misérables. It's not that different, anyway.
A few years ago, at the Williamstown Fair (Canada's oldest fair!)'s talent show, a little girl, who must've only been about six or seven, sang "Castle on a Cloud." She was adorable, plus a really good singer. Then, another girl, who thought she was old enough to have the hips, breasts, and attitude for it, sang "All That Jazz." She was about nine or ten. It was unfortunate.

A Sequel?
Yeah, a sequel. Andrew Lloyd Webber has decided he wants more money, and that the way to get it is by writing a sequel to The Phantom of the Opera. And then he came out asking why everyone was so upset that he was writing a sequel. Ugh.
Anyway, from the original, I really do like the song "Masquerade."

Goes With...
Now, today's goes with yesterday's. It's not part of the week, but it's actually Commentary! The Musical from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Yes, that's right. There's commentary, and it's a musical. Maurissa Tancharoen (I think that's how you spell it) sings perhaps my favourite song from it, "Nobody's Asian in the Movies."

Ending the Week
During the Writers' Strike, Joss Whedon decided to release a show online. The show was called Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Though a musical in three acts, it was technically a three-episode series (which is how it was nominated for an Emmy). Anyway, it's hilarious and amazing and awesome.
The opening song in Act Two is called "My Eyes."

Nearly Almost
We're nearly almost done. We're nearly done the Week of Series, and we're almost done the
Month of Musicals. Anyway, today, I'm asking you: have you ever heard of the show The Battery's Down? It's pretty good. Well, season one was better. Anyway, you should check it out. It's an online show. Anyway, one of my favourite songs from it is from the very first episode. The song is called "This is Your Life." Jake's friends sing it to him when he decides to quit musical theatre.

Cardiovascular and Lymphatic, Yes, the Nervous System, Too!
Scrubs was a great show. One time, that had an episode called My Musical. A patient had an aneurysm that was causing her to hear everything in song, and so the episode was, of course, a musical. They had professional (Broadway?) musicians and composers, all the songs were based on actual Broadway showtunes, and the patient, Ms. Miller, was played by Stephanie D'Abruzzo, a double-role member of the cast of Avenue Q.
Now, of all the numbers in the episode, I'd have to say that my favourite is "Everything Comes Down to Poo."

Wingmen I Can Wear
I love How I Met Your Mother. By the way, did you see the season premiere last night? Awesome!
Anyway, though the show has had many songs in it (mostly thanks to Marshal Erikson and Robin Sparkles) there have only been a couple that were truly musicalesque songs. And of them, I have chosen the by far superior one: "Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit."

Another Week
It's time for our second Week within the Month of Musicals! It's called: The Series Week. Yes, each song this week (Monday to Friday) is from a series. Or show, but the term "show" could also encompass everything this month.
Anyway, we're starting with Glee and getting it out of the way.
One of my favourite songs from it is the mash-up of "Halo/Walking on Sunshine." I don't know why the mash-ups aren't on any of the CDs that have been released, but they're not, and that's just too bad.

More One Than the Other
I wasn't sure how I'd feel about Hamlet 2. Then I watched it and found out that it makes more fun of Hamlet than it does of Christianity, so I was fine with it. I particularly enjoyed when Hamlet and Laertes engaged in a light saber duel while swinging over the stage.
Anyway, I did quite enjoy the one song we actually hear: "Rock Me Sexy Jesus."

Not Well Known
Ever seen The Music Man? No? Neither have I. Well, I've seen bits and pieces. Anyway, I really like the song "Shipoopi." Unfortunately, the show is already really long as it is, and that song doesn't do anything to advance the plot whatsoever, so it's usually taken out.
Shame.

Real Positive
Now, I wasn't in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. However, LMT did it two years before we did Follies (I was still in grade 11, though, so I wasn't aware). Anyway, this past year (end of April 2010), the high school in Quebec where my sister did her placement did a production of it. It was pretty hilairmo.
Anyway, I did quite enjoy "Happy to Keep his Dinner Warm." It's good to know that she has such a positive outlook on how they may spend their lives together...

I'm Late
Sorry I'm late. I forgot to post one yesterday, so I guess there'll be two today. I'll do them both now, so I don't forget.
First, let's go with a song from Footloose! The Musical. I actually heard a song from it when I was at the dentist about a month ago, waiting from my wisdom tooth to get pulled. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of remembering Little Shop of Horrors while I was waiting. Anyway, I like the song "Dancing is not a Crime."
Oh, '80s white boy rapping...

A Whole Bunch
So you know the song "Ladies' Choice" from Hairspray? Well it's pretty much a whole bunch of sexual innuendos stuck together and made to rhyme. That's why it's awesome.

Really
Okay, really. Who doesn't love Audrey Hepburn? I sure do! I named my bamboo after her!
Also, who doesn't love Julie Andrews? I mean, Mary Poppins was one of my favourite films growing up.
Anyway, when I decided to feature a song from My Fair Lady, I had a hard time picking which song to do. So, ultimately, I decided to do two songs, that sort of go together. Not a whole lot, but enough for me to get away with featuring them both in one post. Those two songs are "The Rain in Spain" and "I Could Have Danced All Night."
See? They sort of go together. Better than some in the past have...

No Icing
When Lindsay kicks Tobias out of the house, in an attempt to still see their daughter, he dresses up as a British nanny named Mrs. Featherbottom. According to the narrator, "[i]t was the exact plot of Mrs. Doubtfire... with a bit of Mary Poppins." Indeed, he does try to fly down from the landing using an umbrella, which is hilarious, and he ends many of his "songs" with the phrase "in the most delicious way." However, instead of offering "A Spoonful of Sugar" with medicine, Mrs. Featherbottom (not Mr. Fingerbottom) offers a big squirt of icing.

Right Now
Right now, I'm listening to music from Chicago, so I'll feature a song from it. My mom loves this show, and I never understood why until a few months ago, when I finally watched it. It's pretty damn good. Anyway, my favourite song from the show it "The Press Conference Rag."

Lately
Lately, I've come into the acquisition of the music from Wicked. And now I want to see it SO BADLY!!! Gah! I mean, I'd love to see it with the original cast, but I've accepted that won't happen. But oh, how I would love to see the show on Broadway!
Anywho, the song I decided to feature is "What is this Feeling?" It's one of my favourites and I love it and it's great and I really want to see it.

Probably
Thoroughly Modern Millie is probably my favourite musical. Or one of, at least. One of my favourite numbers from it is "I Turned the Corner/I'm Falling in Love with Someone."
Now I just need to see the original film, with Julie Andrews.

I Really Love the Skillful Way
I went with The Rockey Horror Show today. Or The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Whichever one works. Here, let's do this: The Rocky Horror (Picture) Show. And I decided to go with the song which really puts the story into motion: "Dammit Janet."

So Cold
It's so friggin' cold this morning! Anyway, I recently saw the film version of Little Shop of Horrors. Let me start by saying, Steve Martin with black hair really weirded me out.
But anyway.
I decided to go with the song "Suddenly Seymour." Also, Ellen Greene is pretty awesome.

Oh Yeah? That's What You Think!
I love You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. I also love Kristin Chenoweth, who is awesome! Also, "My New Philosophy" is a great and hilarious song. I love it.

Last Year
Last year ('09-'10) was my first year at university. I got involved with the school's musical theatre group, and played the part of Max Deems in Stephen Sondheim's Follies. I've decided to feature my wife Stella's song, "Who's That Woman?" The idea behind it is that it was the big, famous showstopper number in the old days, which is why the present-day former showgirls are reflected throughout the number by their old days "ghosts."

Weekend? What?
Yeah, that's right. This has never been done before: a weekend within a week within a month. In the Month of Musicals, finishing off the Stephen Sondheim Week is the Weekend of Shows I've Been In. Yes, I've only been in two shows. But they're both Sondheim shows!
We'll do them chronologically. In grade 11, I was in a local theatre group's 100th show, which was West Side Story. It was a really great show. And I've decided to share the song "America" with you.

Diana Hates It
My friend Diana absolutely hates Into the Woods. I don't know why. I loved it. Anywho, the song I picked was "Your Fault and Last Midnight." I feel like it would probably be easier to sing than it sounds.
Just sayin'.

Sweens Tizzodd, Yo
Yeah, that's right. I'm cool like that.
Continuing in this, Stephen Sondheim Week, we have a song from Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. I chose to feature the song "The Worst Pies in London."

I'm Back, Nerds!
I realize I didn't announce that I was taking the summer off. But I did. But I'm back now, and I'm coming back with a bang! This, the month of September, is The Month of Musicals!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
We're starting off with a tricky double of sorts. It's also the Stephen Sondheim Week! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
That means it's a five-day week (starting on a Wednesday, I know) of Sondheim shows. I'm starting with "Comedy Tonight" from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, which is a hilarious show and I love it.
