Canada2

This time, the artist's Canadian: it's Jason Collett. Actually, I think his song "Love Song to Canada" was also a free download from iTunes...

Canada1

Here we are: the non-afore-mentioned Canada's Weekend! I guess it's in celebration of the awesomeness of Canada, and tat the Olympics are here right now. We're starting off with a song by an American band, The Thermals. But the song is called "Canada." It was free on iTunes. And I'm glad, 'cause it's great!

Same Name, Different Song

Another "1901"!!!!! Don't worry, it's not the same song. They just both happen to be named for the same year that Queen Victoria died after her reign of 63 years and seven months, making her the longest-reigning British monarch and the longest-reigning female monarch. There's your trivia for today.
Anyway, this one is by Phoenix. Oh, and in case you're wondering, it's from the album "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix." I thoroughly enjoy the name.

Humble Beginnings

I was able to watch Tim Myth from their humble beginnings-ish as they cimbed the ranks of the first ever Live 88.5 Big Money Shot. It was great. And it's been so long since I've heard 1901, which makes me sad, 'cause it's so so good!

So Much So

I'm so tired. So I'll just tell you that "Juliette" wasn't in the Month of Ladies' Songs because I didn't know Hollerado at the time. I certainly knew of them, due to the Big Money Shot, but I didn't know anything by them. But I do now. Obviously.

Erg Again

Not erg about the song. "My Love Was There" is a great song. It's this assignment that I'm doing. It's horrible. And yet it's my major. Oh well.
I wonder if The Junction ever had to deal with something like this...

Is Made

I forget where I first heard "Connection," but I'm glad I did. It's a good'un! Oh, and it's Elastica. They're some '80s or '90s band. I thinks '90s.

Is This

"Is This What You Call Love?" by Hawksley Workman. 'Nough said.

Oo-ee-oo

In grade nine art class (wow, that was a long time ago), Brenda, who sat next to me, would often pass the time by playfully beating me with the edge of her metal ruler. Sometimes she would even take my metal ruler (which had edges) and beat me with both. To escape, I fled to the counter-type thingy behind me by the wall. It was better there, anyway, 'cause a lot of the stuff we did was on big pieces of paper, and the table only had so much room. Sometimes my friend Brittany would come over, too, because the counter was nice and roomy. I hadn't met her before grade nine, but at that counter (and passing notes in English class) was where we really became good friends. Anyway, one day I had this song stuck in my head, so I started singing it, not even knowing it was called "Buddy Holly." Brittany, who was with me at the counter, started singing along. that particular event, actually, contributed to the giant crush I had on her at the time. But I digress. When we were done singing, I asked her who sang it, and she didn't know. Fortunately, my sister called home that night from university, and so I asked her. She told me Weezer. And yes, that is the correct answer.

I'm In

Hey, remember that film "Titan A.E."? Man, it was good! Anyway, if I'm not mistaken, "Over My Head" was in it, or something. It'a actually probably one of the oldest songs that I liked and still like. Congratulations, Lit!

Escape

I'm not going to tell you why i=this post is called "Escape." I'll leave that up to your imagination. Anyway, the song. I'm excited about this one! It's called "Ancient Hero." I'm not sure from what game it is, precisely, but I do know that it's awesome and amazing and in my (university) Medieval Studies class I'm really excited 'cause I get to write an essay on The Legend of Zelda!
Sorry. When I get excited I tend to get careless and use run-on sentences. My apologies.

Per se

So today isn't a specific song, per se, but a score. I just love the musical score from "30 Rock." It's just so good! It makes me so happy!

Morbidly Titled

Yes, this song is called "Death." And for the longest time, I thought White Lies were a Canadian band. Turns out they're not.

Virgin

"Yours to Keep" was on a Virgin Mobile commercial. That's how I know the song by Teddybears Stockholm, or Teddybears STKLM (or something), of just Teddybears.

i...Pod? Touch?

I didn't even know this song was on an iPod commercial until I looked up the list to find a seventh song that I hadn't already featured. I was "Mr. Pitiful" and I was all, "Hey, I love that song!"
Good job, Matt Costa. I'm proud of you. You made it onto an Apple commercial.

And so concludes the Week of Apple Commercials! What't in store for the future? Just you wait and see!

iPod Touch

This CSS song got cut off before the part where it says the name of the song, and also before that part that's in... Portuguese? Anyway, it's a really good song, if a little... sketchy. I mean, it's called "Music is My Hot Hot Sex."

I Think iPod

Well, an iPod of some sort. I'm pretty sure. Anyway, this commercial, where everyone heard "Flathead," is how a buttload of people (myself included) first heard about The Fratellis.

iPod

Erg. I have my Roman Civ. midterm tonight.
Anyway, this Ting Tings song was on one of the first iPod commercials that I personally saw. It is, of course, "Shut Up and Let Me Go."

iPhone

EVERY iPhone commercial has this song by The Submarines. It took me so long to figure out what it was called. Then, finally, they had a commercial for the Shazam application. They exampled it on the song that was playing, and I discovered who it was, that it was from their album "Honeysuckle Weeks" and that it was called "You, Me & the Bourgeoisie."

Macbook I Think

First time I ever heard of Yael Naïm before her song "New Soul" was on a Mac commercial. I didn't even know Yael was a name...

Week of

This week (This time it's a seven-say week, and not just five) is to be The Week of Apple Commercials. So, it's all songs from commercials for Apple products: Macs, iPods, iPhones.... Okay, that's it. But... yeah...
I actually had a hard time, because there were a lot of songs, but not all of them are, in my opinion, really good. And some, such as Miss Li's "Bourgeois Shangri La," have already been featured.
Anyway, we'll start the way they started. Back in 2003, Jet featured on the very first iPod commercial ever, with their iconic "Are You Gonna Be My Girl."

Yeah, I know. I feel old, too.

Painters from Barcelona

I forget where I heard this song, but it was quite recently. It's called "The Painter" and it's by some band who I've never otherwise heard of, called I'm From Barcelona.

Field School

So, at my university, I can't graduate my undergrad Archaeology program until I've done a field school (which is what they call a dig). One of the ones my university offers is in a "Ghost Town" in Southern Ontario. However, that one is by some Canadians, not some Shiny Toys Guns.

Not Impressed

I just discovered that Microsoft Word Spell Check doesn't recognize the word "stratigraphy." Just further evidence that it isn't Archaeologist-friendly.

Anyway, that's neither here nor there. The point is:
Bedouin Soundclash. "Walls Fall Down."

Of Age

I wasn't planning on featuring this Barenaked Ladies song, but I turn 19 today, so I can legally drink now. So, to commemorate this momentous occasion, I'm featuring "Alcohol."

Delay

The B-Side track for The Strokes' song "Reptilia" was a duet done with Regina Spektor. It was called "Modern Girls & Old-Fashioned Men." The release of the album that featured it, "Room on Fire," was delayed, because the song was being credited to The Strokes and Regina Spektor, but the lead singer of The Strokes (I always forget his name) wanted it to be credited to Regina Spektor and The Strokes.

The Only Rap

Yes, this is the only rap that I actually like. It's "The Nosebleed Section" by the Australian rap group The Hilltop Hoods. It samples some song by some female singer... I forget what slash who, though.
