Here We Are!!!!!

We're here! I'm so excited! Here we are, at the end of My Week! And my most favourite band in the whole wide worrrrrrrld!
It's The Arcade Fire, of course!
Now, on August third, 2010, I took the day off work. I went into town to give blood. Also I bought the first couple of Scott Pilgrim books. But it was also the day I turned 19 and a half! And, making the best half-birthday present ever, The Arcade Fire released their new album, "The Suburbs!"
Oh, I was so excited!!!
So anyway, in Cornwall, there's only one place where you can buy music anymore, and that's Wal-Mart. And Wal-Mart is not cheap when it comes to music. Also, they don't usually have albums the day they come out. Which sucks. But I figured I'd try it anyway. And they did have it! And it only cost $13.74! Holy shot-nurkers!
So naturally, I bought it.
Meanwhile, Live88.5 was having "Arcade Fire Day," in which they played a song from the new album every hour on the hour. When they did, you had to text "Arcade Fire" and your first and last name to 885885 for a chance to win the new album. I tried a couple times, before getting to Wal-Mart. Then, a couple days later, I got a call from 88.5 telling me I had won the new album! w00t!
So then I had to go into Ottawa. But that was fine, because we got to hang out with Laura! And then I had two of the album, so I gave one (the one I paid for) to my sister, instead of paying her for gas.
Now, I've decided to feature the first single from the album. It's called "Ready to Start." I love it, and when I heard it for the first time, I almost died! Good thing I didn't, though, because then, who would have finished milking the cows? Not the cows, that's for sure!

Okay, I realize I just came back after months, but I have this whole list of songs to feature, and they, like my iTunes, are on my computer, which is on its way to Dell right now, so that they can fix poor Gertrude's backlightt. As such, I am currently using my sister's old computer, which runs on Microsoft 2000. Yeah, 2000. Professional.
Anyway, so I may not be able to feature for a while.
So! I've come up with a solution.

So, I was on the iTunes store (getting more legal in my downloading; w00t!), and I felt like searching The Arcade Fire, just to see if they had any song I didn't already have.


I was scrolling through the list when I came across an artist that wasn't them. It was Vitamin String Quartet.

Yeah, there this string quartet that does covers of contemporary songs. I downloaded (among others) "Haiti" and "Rebellion (Lies)" by the above. Man alive, are they ever incredible!

So, as much as I love The Arcade Fire, I have to be perfectly honest with you:

It starts out a little weak.



They cover "Maps" by The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It sounds a little weak at first, but it quickly grows stronger and becomes SO GOOD!

Foo Fire

So, I absolutely love the song "Keep the Car Running" by The Arcade Fire. Every Time I hear "Dashboard" by Modest Mouse, I think of "Keep the Car Running," as the two were released as singles and overplayed at the same time. Anyway, that's not what this is about.



The Foo Fighters did an incredible cover of this song. It's not quite as good as the original, but it's close. And knowing how much I love the Arcade Fire, that should tell you a lot.

The Reaper, He Reaches and Touches My Hand...

Last night, my sister and I went to see the new Harry Potter film, The Half-Blood Prince. I was surprised at its quality; then again, I haven't read the book in a while. There were three previews. The first was for Sherlock Holmes, with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. It actually looks really good, and kind of funny. I wonder if they worked Holmes's heroin addiction into the plot... Anyway, the second was some weird kids' film. But the third! Remember that book you had when you were a kid, "Where the Wild Things Are?" Well I do. It was great, and they're making it into a film. I was excited to begin with, but now that I've seen the preview, I'm even more excited. Well, it's more because I heard it... The song they used... I was shocked. I was surprised. I was ecstatic. I sang along for the whole trailer. They played "Wake Up" by The Arcade Fire. SUCH A GOOD SONG!!! I don't know how to properly express my feeling towards this song, and this band! They're just so amazing!!!

Is it a dream, or is it a lie?

Today, I'm sharing with you, dear readers, "Neighbourhood #3 (Power Out)" by The Arcade Fire.
Now, I didn't choose this song (by my favourite band) because it's my favourite, although it's definitely up there. The reason I chose it is because it is the first Arcade Fire song I ever heard, so it really does mean a lot to me, you know? It's such a great song, and the music video... Well, it's... interesting.
