This Time

This time, I am using the first single from the new album. That's because "Fixed" is the only song from the new Stars album that I do actually know. Anyway, they, of course, are tied for my second favourite band. I'm so excited for tomorrow!!!

The New Year

Happy New Year all! I'm really excited about 2010, even though nothing particularly monumental is going to happen for me. No Archaeological dig in Jordan this summer. I'm not graduating or finishing anything other than my first year of university...
Well, maybe I can relax this year.
Today's song is one by Stars, and I've been putting it off for months. I suppose I could feature "The Beginning After the End," which is the opening track of "In Our Bedroom After the War." In it you hear Torquil Campbell's mother speak (remember my first Stars post).
But that's not the song I've had is:

This song, along with "Gimme Sympathy," was stuck in my head all day! It's just so good! It's "Reunion" by Stars.



It's also from their first album, "Set Yourself on Fire." Don't worry; one of these days, I'll post one of their songs from another album!

When There's Nothing Left to Burn, You Have to Set Yourself on Fire

This is the opening line to the song "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead" by Stars. Such a sad song.... It is the incredible first track on Stars' amazing album, "Set Yourself on Fire." The above words are spoken by the father of the lead singer (Torquil Campbell), who is a famous Shakespearean actor. On Stars' following album, "In Our Bedroom After the War," Campbell's mother, also a Shakespearean actress, speaks the album's opening lines.
"Your Ex-Lover Is Dead" is an absolutely beautiful song. It has male and female vocals, cello, and a variety of brass and wind instruments. When I first heard this song, I almost died, it was so great. I even eventually wrote a short story based on my interpretation of the lyrics, but I don't expect that will be shared here.

Break the Scenes of Sociality

In my grade 12 Writer's Craft course, one activity was to create a character using a bunch of specific criteria. It was frustrating, but I think I did a pretty good job. One criterion was the character's favourite song. After much thought and deliberation, I finally decided that Frederick Scott's favourite song was to be "7/4 (Shoreline)" by Broken Social Scene. This is an incredible song by an amazing band whose members include members from Stars, Treble Charger, and Metric. Also, Feist is a founding member, and we all know how awesome she is!
